Mr Agrawal is a highly experienced obesity surgeon based in London, Essex and Hertfordshire, who has carried out more than 1000 keyhole bariatric operations and is designated as ‘Master Surgeon in Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (MSMBS™)’ by Surgical Review Corporation of USA. This makes him unique among other UK surgeons working in this field. Additionally, Mr Agrawal provides clinical instruction on bariatric and laparoscopic procedures to other surgeons, as well as presenting at both national and international conferences and contributing to prestigious medical publications, which offers an indication of his level of expertise in bariatrics.

Mr Sanjay Agrawal is a specialist weight-loss surgeon, who performs laparoscopic bariatric procedures at London's Homerton University Hospital. He is also Honorary Senior Lecturer in the Barts and The London School of Medicine and Dentistry, Queen Mary, University of London.

Mr Agrawal was awarded ‘Fellow’ of the American Society for Metabolic & Bariatric Surgery (FASMBS) in 2016.


Mr Agrawal has been awarded ‘Certificate of Medical Excellence’ and membership of Top Doctors® UK by invitation.

Mr Agrawal has the honour of being the only Weight-loss/Obesity Surgeon in the UK to achieve the certification of ‘Master Surgeon in Metabolic & Bariatric Surgery™ (MSMBS™)’ by Surgical Review Corporation of USA. It was previously called ‘Surgeon of Excellence in Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery™ (SOEMBS™)’ & ‘Bariatric Surgeon of Excellence™ (BSOE™)’. He has been accredited with the above since October, 2012.

Mr Agrawal’s other honours include being the First Post-CCT Fellow in Bariatric and Upper GI Surgery awarded under the National Surgical Fellowship Scheme through the Royal College of Surgeons of England for a year.

As Chief Editor, Mr Agrawal has edited as well as authored for a book titled ‘Obesity, Bariatric & Metabolic Surgery: A Practical Guide’ published in 2015 (August) by Springer. The book has now achieved >107,000 combined chapter downloads electronically worldwide since release.

Mr Agrawal has undergone extensive training in UK, Belgium, Japan & India and has an experience of >1000 laparoscopic bariatric procedures so far. In addition, he has undertaken >2000 general surgical procedures to date. He trains other surgeons in bariatric & laparoscopic surgery and has made numerous presentations (>100) at national and international meetings as well as multiple publications (>100) in peer-reviewed journals.
